 GARFIELD
 The Edge 1988

 CONTROLS : Keyboard, Cursor, Kempston
 ---------------------------------------------------------------------
AIM : Garfield, the ubiquitous fat lazy cat, has decided to do some
work for once. His girlfriend Arlene has been taken down to the local
pound, and it's up to Garfield to rescue her from imprisonment. First
though, he must get out of the house...

GAMEPLAY : During Garfield's efforts to find Arlene, you must keep an
eye on two things: his tiredness and hunger levels. If he gets too
tired, Garfield will fall asleep and leave Arlene languishing in the
pound, so make sure he gets plenty of rest!

Food is important too. There are various pieces of food to be found -
Garfield's master Jon's cup of coffee, strings of sausages and the
inevitable lasagne. Watch out for the Snack Attack warnings which
appear periodically below the main screen. When there's a Snack Attack
on, Garfield can eat practically anything.

Help (or hindrance) is provided by two other animal characters. The
first is Odie, Jon's thick, ever-present and very irritating dog.
Points can be gained by giving Odie a good kick. Help can also be
obtained from Garfield's nephew Nermal, the cutest kitten ever - if
 you can find him.

Further points can be gained by tearing the upholstery apart, like
any cat would, and by solving the numerous puzzles. Messages at the
bottom of the screen keep up a running commentary and useful objects
lie around for Garfield to collect and use. It takes some
experimentation to find out what they're used for.

COMMENTS : "Funny and addictive - with real arcade-adventure
challenge as well as comic-strip slapstick."
 RATING : 90% (CRASH #50, March 1988)

NOW : A tough arcade-adventure with some really good graphics and some
nice touches. (Kicking Odie was, until SYNDICATE came along, probably
the most callous act of brutality in a computer game!)
